MW2 And Warzone 2 Will Have Tradeable Weapon Skins According To New Leaks

Activision could be looking to monetize cosmetics even more than they already have,
Alex KirtonBy Alex KirtonMay 21, 2022

A new MW2 leak has pointed at tradeable cosmetics coming to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 when they are released.

A lot of games have a system in place for players to trade cosmetics between themselves, CS:GO, Team Fortress 2 are two examples where the system works really well, They allow players to trade rare cosmetic items in exchange for real world money.

Call of Duty has never had a system like this, any cosmetic in the game has had to be earned or purchased from the in-game store and is locked to your account forever. All cosmetics have always been available to all players, as long as you have the cash to spare. So a trading system has never been needed.

This could all be about to change.

Warzone 2 will release alongside Modern Warfare 2 – Activision

Reliable Call of Duty leaker TheGhostofHope claims that Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 will finally get tradeable cosmetics, this includes operator skins and weapon blueprints.

Another part of the leak suggests that Modern Warfare 2 will be getting an Escape From Tarkov game mode titled ‘DMZ’, this mode will introduce the marketplace into the game where the items can be bought and traded.

GhostofHope says “you are able to earn skins, blueprints and more from ‘DMZ’, that are useable across Multiplayer and eventually Warzone 2”

It doesn’t say whether or not the only way to get cosmetics will be through the DMZ mode, or just a small selection of them, we also don’t know if there will still be skins in the game that aren’t tradable, like the ones you get from weapon challenges.

A recent leak also suggested that Modern Warfare 2 could be including NFTs in future Call of Duty games, although Activision Blizzard president Mike Ybarra has disputed these claims.

Remember that just with all leaks, nothing is true until you hear it directly from Activision or Infinity Ward.
