NetherRealm Studios has confirmed the details of Mortal Kombat 1’s first Kombat Pack, previously subject to leaks. The news came through an official trailer, marking the introduction of six main characters into the beloved gaming universe. Homelander, Peacemaker, Omni-Man, Takeda, Ermac, and Quan Chi are set to make their debuts, blending familiar faces with newcomers to create an engaging mix.
This intriguing news followed a surprise early release of the trailer on an affiliated Mortal Kombat account ahead of its scheduled reveal at Comic-Con. The early leak did little to detract from the excitement when NetherRealm Studios swiftly followed with the release of the official version of the trailer. The gaming community is now abuzz, analysing every frame of the reveal for hints about the gameplay mechanics and the storyline behind these characters’ arrival.
Notably, the characters of Homelander and Peacemaker seem to mirror their TV counterparts, Antony Starr and John Cena respectively. While it’s evident that the game developers have used the stars’ likenesses, whether Starr and Cena will voice their virtual alter-egos remains to be seen. This wouldn’t be Mortal Kombat’s first encounter with celebrities; Sylvester Stallone and Peter Weller lent their voices to Rambo and RoboCop in Mortal Kombat 11.

Longtime fans of the series will be delighted to welcome back Quan Chi and Ermac, two characters with deep roots in Mortal Kombat lore. At the same time, the inclusion of Takeda, the son of Kenshi Takahashi, who first entered the Mortal Kombat universe in Mortal Kombat X, ensures fresh blood enters the fray. The blend of old and new characters is a deliberate move to satisfy the diverse demographic of Mortal Kombat gamers.
In addition to the six main characters, the Kombat Pack will include five Kameo Fighters: Tremor, Khameleon, Mavado, Johnny Cage, and Ferra. The Kombat Pack, therefore, promises to significantly expand the game’s roster and enhance its replay value, offering gamers new characters and fighting styles to master.
Finally, it’s been confirmed that Homelander will be the first to join the game, with a release window set for spring 2024. For those eager to get their hands on the new characters early, the Kombat Pack also grants a week’s early access to each character. Plus, fans will get an already announced Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage. With these exciting updates, Mortal Kombat 1 is set to deliver a thrilling new chapter in the history of the game series.
