GTA 6 Release Date Announced In Supposed ‘Leaked’ Audio Clip

Controversial audio clip claims to reveal long-awaited details, but it's likely fake.
By Alex KirtonSeptember 7, 2023

Few topics generate as much speculation and anticipation as the next instalment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, GTA 6. However, an unverified audio clip has fanned the flames of curiosity, even as it raises eyebrows among sceptics.

Initially taken off the internet due to copyright reasons, the controversial audio clip claims to feature Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussing GTA 6’s announcement and release dates. According to the disputed audio, Zelnick supposedly indicated that the game would be formally announced on October 23, 2023, and launched on October 24, 2025.

While these dates would undoubtedly be music to the ears of eager fans, a few issues cast a shadow over the audio’s authenticity. For one, Zelnick pronounced the game as “V I,” using Roman numerals rather than the more colloquial “six.” Furthermore, technological advances make it easier than ever to fake audio recordings, casting further doubt on the clip’s credibility.

BREAKING: apparently there’s a leaked voice note from the Take 2 interactive CEO where he discusses the release for GTA 6 , he says ‘An announcement is expected very soon this October 23rd’ ‘the next GTA is expected to launch in October 24’

Another discordant note in the leaked audio involves inconsistencies with the fiscal year 2025 timeline. The clip’s release date doesn’t align with Zelnick’s earlier comments about fiscal 2025 ending in September of that year.

Despite the lack of an official announcement from Rockstar Games, hints and teasers have been trickling from the company. In fact, in a recent separate interview, the real Strauss Zelnick indicated that the highly-anticipated game might see the light of day in 2024 or early 2025, a suggestion that somewhat contradicts the dates mentioned in the dubious audio clip.

As rumours continue to circulate, the gaming community is left in a state of eager anticipation, marred only by the cloak of uncertainty that surrounds this high-profile project. While fans eagerly await Rockstar’s official word, the shadow of scepticism looms large, urging gamers to temper their excitement with a dose of reality.

Until Rockstar Games steps forth with an official announcement, all alleged leaks, including this enigmatic audio clip, should be approached with caution. After all, in the volatile world of video game releases, the only sure bet is the unexpected.
