The suspense around the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) might be reaching its climax, with increasing speculation that an official announcement could be expected this year, and the much-anticipated game hitting the shelves by 2025. Rockstar Games, the developer, has yet to confirm these speculations, but hints from parent company Take-Two Interactive signal a potential launch within the next couple of years.
Historically, Rockstar Games has a tendency to promote new game titles in the month of October, as evidenced by the announcement of GTA 5 in October 2011 and Red Dead Redemption 2 in October 2016. This pattern, coupled with the fact that this year marks the tenth anniversary of GTA 5, adds weight to the prospect of an October 2023 announcement.
Nonetheless, rumours of an alternate development could dampen this speculation. Whispers in the gaming community suggest that Rockstar might be busy preparing for the launch of a remastered version of Red Dead Redemption, which, if true, could push back the unveiling and release of GTA 6.
Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, offered some insight into these rumours in a recent financial results conference call. They stated, “Fiscal year 2025 is a pivotal period for our organization. We have been gearing up over the past few years to launch a substantial array of projects which, we believe, will propel our company to even higher heights.”
The company further indicated, “We foresee entering this transformative phase in Fiscal year 2025 by launching a series of revolutionary titles that we believe will redefine standards in our industry and empower us to achieve over $8 billion in Net Bookings and over $1 billion in Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow.”
With references to ‘revolutionary titles,’ it’s plausible to infer that they are alluding to GTA 6, among other games. GTA 6 is undeniably one of the most anticipated releases for fans of this popular franchise, and it’s safe to say that Rockstar recognizes the high level of anticipation surrounding it.
