Despite the enormous success of the Red Dead Redemption series, information on its next instalment remains elusive. Rockstar Games, known for iconic franchises like GTA, has been tight-lipped about the future of the Western-themed action game. While information about GTA 6 is gradually becoming available, fans are left speculating on what’s in store for the Red Dead series.
Based on the extended eight-year development period of Red Dead Redemption 2, industry experts believe that a third game in the franchise would require a similar investment of time and resources. Even though Rockstar has not officially confirmed any plans, an online user has suggested that RDR3 may already be in its early development phase.
Timing for the new instalment remains a subject of speculation. Given that GTA 6 is predicted to hit the market around 2025, Red Dead Redemption 3 is unlikely to see the light of day before 2030. The previous two Red Dead games were released eight years apart, but given Rockstar’s trend toward lengthier support for its existing titles, another eight-year cycle seems improbable.
While little is known about the game’s storyline, two possible central characters have emerged in fans’ discussions: Landon Ricketts and Charles Smith. Ricketts is a legendary gunslinger whose backstory remains largely unexplored. On the other hand, Charles Smith offers a departure from the traditional gunslinger motif, with a compelling background involving Native American heritage and underground fighting.
Speculation about the game’s location indicates that RDR3 might once again feature the landscapes of America and México. However, some fans are holding out for a more radical setting, like the United Kingdom, given that the timeline of the Red Dead series could easily accommodate a story set there.
Whenever the game does make its debut, it is expected to be released on next-generation consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. There’s also a strong possibility that it will be available on PC, as was the case with Red Dead Redemption 2.
For now, the anticipation builds as Rockstar Games focuses its immediate resources on GTA 6. But rest assured, the future of the Red Dead series looks promising, even if fans might have to wait a while to saddle up for another adventure.
