The mechanic has drawn a lot of criticism for how it effects the gameplay and the developers are well aware of player complaints.
Senior Creative Director at Raven Software Ted Timmins posted a tweet about the topic and admitted that he is looking to find a “fix” for it.
Timmins believes slide cancelling is an “exploitable accessibility ceiling” and telling how he has “been looking for a good excuse to fix slide cancelling for almost a year now.”

There is no doubt that this is an issue that will split the community down the middle, with some players thinking this is a good move, and the rest being annoyed as they used the mechanic to better their gameplay.
Timmins didnt explain exactly how he would fix the mechanic so we don’t actually know if its realistic to remove as it could mean a whole overhaul of the games movement, but maybe we’ll see some drastic changes with Warzone 2.
