The gaming world is abuzz with talk of the decline of Call of Duty’s dominance in the FPS genre. With new contenders like XDefiant seizing the opportunity to dethrone the long-standing giant, it seems that CoD’s reign may be coming to an end.
XDefiant’s recent Closed Beta provided a glimpse into the future of FPS games, demonstrating the fragility of CoD’s ecosystem by surpassing both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone on Twitch. However, the upcoming full release of XDefiant is not the only game vying for the top spot.

Enter Combat Master, a new PC title that is making waves in the gaming community after its release on Steam on April 21. This game relies on movement and core aim, removing aim assist from the equation and cranking up the speed, providing a fresh take on the FPS genre.
Combat Master has already earned a 9.5/10 rating on Steam and is attracting high-profile players, including those from the renowned esports organization, FaZe Clan. Jason “Jev” Eugene, a member of FaZe Clan, has already given the game his stamp of approval.
As the FPS genre continues to evolve, more games are emerging to compete with the established names. Dr Disrespect’s Deadrop and the newly announced Unrecord are just a few of the titles on the horizon. With the emergence of Combat Master, it seems that the gaming world is in for a real shake-up, and only time will tell which game will ultimately take the crown from Call of Duty.
