Battlefield 6 is ‘Ripping Off’ Modern Warfare New Rumour Suggests

DICE’s next game could be taking heavy influence from 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare according to the most recent Battlefield 6 rumour.

DICE/Electronic Arts

Battlefield rumours are coming in thick and fast that past few weeks, players have been learning a lot about the game from third party sources and leaks. From the game having almost fully destructible maps, to a possible World War 3 setting, and games having a player count of 128 players. The next Battlefield is sure to be groundbreaking, literally.

Aside from them both being First-person shooter games, Battlefield and Call of Duty have almost always been two very different games, but now it seems DICE have been watching closely and are taking hints from Call of Duties 2019 release – Modern Warfare.

The leak comes from Tom Henderson, a reputable source for leaks. According to Tom, Battlefield 6 will not be called Battlefield 6, it will drop the numbers and go by “Battlefield.” This is DICE’s attempt at making a fresh start for the franchise. Activision did the same thing with Modern Warfare just under two years ago.

The Modern Warfare series ended in 2011 with Modern Warfare 3, until eight years later when Modern Warfare came out. Instead of naming the game Modern Warfare 4, they decided to lose the numbers altogether.

Not only did the game lose the numbers but they also left the old storyline behind, opting instead to tell a brand new story. The new campaign followed Farah and her home country fighting for it’s freedom, the series also went with a more realistic and gritty approach to storytelling. A far cry from the way Modern Warfare 2 and 3 told their stories.

Battlefield plans on doing the same, set in World War 3, a fictional conflict which was featured heavily in Modern Warfare 3, but it’s also copying Modern Warfare’s naming convention. When Infinity Ward were naming the past Modern Warfare games the numbers made sense and they followed the same story. 2019’s game was not connected to the story and that’s why they dropped the number. This is what DICE are doing with the next Battlefield game.

Battlefield is no stranger to using strange names for their games, we see this with Battlefield 1, while this makes sense as the game is set during World War I, it can also be confusing since the game before it was Battlefield 4. Several rumours have also suggested that DICE are trying to give players the same feeling they got when playing older Battlefield games like Battlefield 3 after Battlefield 5 failed to grip players in that same way.

Aside from the new name, and games having 128 players, we don’t know much about the next entry into the Battlefield franchise. DICE have been very tight lipped on the project. This could be due to development delays taking priority, we already know the team working on the new Need For Speed game were pulled from their project to work with DICE on Battlefield.

Let’s hope DICE can make an official announcement soon.
