Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be shrunk to the size of an ant, and then have to survive in your own backyard? No? Well you’ve obviously never seen Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. Grounded takes the entire premise of that movie and turns it into a survival game.
You and your friends have been shrunk down to the size of bugs, and you must strive to survive in a backyard filled with some very big, small problems. The game is set in the 1990s, and the goal is to figure out the mystery behind why you’ve been shrunk.
The game can be played in first or third person perspectives and tasks players with gathering resources, building a base and fighting hostile insects, all while managing their hunger, thirst, and stamina. Different insect types will keep players on their toes as they wander through the small but massive blades of grass that cover the backyard.
Spiders are the apex predator that will hunt the player, while ladybugs can be used to located a source of food. The game will increase in difficulty as the player moves through different areas of the garden as you progress.
The most interesting part of the game looks to be the base building, seemingly inspired by Fortnite or Rust in the way the bases are constructed. Part of the trailer shows a base under attack from ants, with players using traps and bombs to fight back.
You can play the game solo, or with three other friends and I know that I, as a lover of survival games, will be checking this one out.
Grounded releases on Xbox and PC on July 28th. You can also pick up the game on Xbox GamePass if you have an active subscription.
