The Lost Wild is an ambitious survival horror title developed by Great Ape Games and published by Annapurna Interactive. Shifting away from traditional action-heavy dinosaur games, it places a heavy emphasis on atmospheric tension and the primal fear of being hunted.
In this experience, you step into the shoes of Saskia, an investigative reporter who finds herself stranded on an island where nature has reclaimed human industrial efforts. To stay alive, you must master the following:
- Dynamic Animal AI: The dinosaurs are not scripted monsters; they are reactive animals. Depending on their hunger or curiosity, they may stalk you from a distance, defend their territory, or flee if they feel threatened.
- The Hub and Spoke World: You will explore decaying, overgrown Japanese research facilities. The non-linear “Hub and Spoke” design encourages you to backtrack and unlock new areas as you find better gear.
- Intimidation Over Combat: You aren’t a soldier. Your primary defense is psychological. You’ll use fire, flares, and makeshift non-lethal tools to startle predators and buy yourself enough time to escape.

While the world is dangerous and physical, the story is driven by a mysterious radio contact. This voice provides a glimmer of hope, guiding you through the facilities as you unravel the “temporal event” that brought these prehistoric beasts into the modern era.
As of March 2026, The Lost Wild remains under active development for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG). The small, dedicated team at Great Ape Games is targeting a high-fidelity release window for late 2026. While the initial focus is on PC, the studio has confirmed that next-gen console versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are planned as part of their future roadmap.
