The survival genre is reaching new heights—literally. After years of development and a breakout performance at the February 2026 Steam Next Fest, Apog Labs and Shueisha Games have officially confirmed that their ambitious skyborne odyssey, ATMOSFAR, is scheduled to launch into Steam Early Access in Q2 2026.
Set on the gravity-defying planet of Tycos, ATMOSFAR replaces traditional landmasses with a vast archipelago of floating islands suspended above a mysterious, swirling abyss. Players take on the role of a “Vagabond” pioneer tasked with uncovering the dark truth behind a collapsed human colony while navigating a world that is as beautiful as it is lethal.
At the heart of ATMOSFAR is a deep focus on vehicular engineering. Exploration is handled through the Wasp—an agile, modular flying craft that comes in four distinct classes:
- Utility Wasps for setting up ground camps.
- Cargo Wasps for hauling massive loads of scavenged scrap.
- Scout Wasps for charting hazardous biomes.
- Fighter Wasps for defending against Tycos’ more aggressive “plantimals” and rogue security drones.
However, the true star of the show is the Cloud Cruiser. This massive, slow-moving capital ship serves as your persistent mobile home. Players can fully customize its interior, manage a hangar for their Wasp fleet, and even invite up to three friends to help pilot and maintain the vessel in a seamless 4-player co-op experience.

Unlike survival games that focus solely on hunger and thirst, ATMOSFAR demands that you care for your equipment. Your life-support system is tied to your backpack’s power, and your ships require constant maintenance. Swapping out engine parts, manufacturing specialized fuel, and repairing hull damage after a run-in with the planet’s “Firesky” electrical storms are all part of the daily routine.
The developers have noted that Tycos is a “living” world. The soundscape and flora are inspired by coastal habitats on Earth—think Scotland or Patagonia—but subverted with alien characteristics. This creates an immersive, “nautical” atmosphere where the howl of a jet stream or the distant cry of a “Mawk” can be both a guide and a warning.

The recent Steam Next Fest demo proved to be a major milestone for the team, ranking among the top 50 most-played demos of the event. According to dev blogs from earlier this month, the team is currently using player feedback to refine flight controls and optimize performance for high-end GPUs ahead of the Q2 launch.
With its blend of airship management, tactical exploration, and stunning sci-fi vistas, ATMOSFAR is positioning itself as the next must-play title for fans of Subnautica and No Man’s Sky.
