Capcom Could Be Working On A Dead Rising Reboot

Alex KirtonMay 9, 20230

Capcom, a celebrated developer known for its work across various game genres, might be looking to breathe new life into one of its popular franchises. An insider leak suggests that the Japanese company is potentially working on a reboot of the iconic zombie-slaying series, Dead Rising. The last instalment, Dead Rising 4, released seven years ago, leaving fans eager for a sequel or a remake in a similar vein as the company’s recent Resident Evil games.

Gaming journalist and reputable leaker Jez Corden has recently hinted that a reboot of Dead Rising may be in the works at Capcom. The news has piqued the interest of fans who have been hoping for the return of the beloved franchise. While no official confirmation has been provided, the rumour mill is already in full swing, anticipating what this potential reboot could bring to the table.

3 was awesome, no 2 zombies looked alike. Somehow 4 regressed a ton.

The previous title in the series, Dead Rising 4, underperformed when it came to sales, falling short of Capcom’s expectations. The company had anticipated over two million copies sold, but by April 2017, the game had yet to reach even one million. Since then, the franchise has been left untouched, with no new entries being developed.

Despite the commercial disappointment of Dead Rising 4, the franchise as a whole has been a resounding success for Capcom. With more than 15 million sales across all instalments, Dead Rising sits comfortably among Capcom’s most successful gaming franchises. A reboot of the series could potentially attract both new and long-time fans, giving them a fresh take on the zombie apocalypse.

The zombie game genre has experienced a resurgence in popularity, thanks to titles like Dead Island 2 and Dying Light 2. If Capcom decides to move forward with a Dead Rising reboot, it could be the perfect opportunity to capitalize on this renewed interest. With the company’s track record of successfully reviving classic franchises, like Devil May Cry and Resident Evil, there’s reason to be optimistic about the future of Dead Rising.

For now, fans will have to wait for an official announcement from Capcom regarding the future of the Dead Rising franchise. If the rumours prove to be true, gamers could soon be stepping back into the shoes of their favourite zombie-slaying characters for a thrilling and fresh experience.
