The once-promising Red Dead Online, the online component of Red Dead Redemption 2, appears to have been left to fend for itself after the developer seemingly abandoned the game months ago. For players who do not frequent the game, they may be shocked to discover that hackers have all but taken over. However, for some, this unfortunate development may not come as a surprise.
As highlighted by a Reddit user, m6nojuice, and reported by GameRant, the chaos that PC players now face is unprecedented. In a video clip, the town of Valentine is shown engulfed in flames, with towering walls reaching from the ground to the sky, and players seemingly floating among the clouds.
It appears that Red Dead Online is facing a similar fate to its sibling, GTA Online, where public lobbies have become nearly unplayable due to rampant hacking. Rockstar Games has done little to combat the wave of hackers tarnishing the gaming experience. Some players have even requested a private “friends-only” lobby feature, so they can enjoy the game exclusively with their friends. While solo lobbies do exist, determined hackers have been known to follow players from one lobby to another, rendering the solution ineffective.

Red Dead Online’s vast and living open world had immense potential, but it appears that Rockstar Games lacked the drive to help it reach its full potential. In July 2021, they announced the withdrawal of resources from Red Dead Online to focus on the development of GTA 6.
For players seeking a hacker-free Red Dead Online experience, they can try one of the many servers available through mod clients like RedM, which offers a range of dedicated servers. Roleplaying servers provide a more immersive and serious experience, although they are only available on PC.
The question remains: will Rockstar Games ever address the issues plaguing Red Dead Online, or will it forever remain a chaotic Wild West ruled by hackers and cheaters? For more updates on this story and other gaming news, stay tuned to Gamerficial.
