Fans of The Sims who have been waiting for the next instalment may finally have had their prayers answered.
It has been seven years since the release of The Sims 4, so it makes sense that a sequel to the fan-favourite title could be in the works.
EA recently confirmed that the next instalment in the series is actually already in development, the news was revealed in an interview with the chief of the studios officer at EA, Laura Miele and VentureBeat’s Geoff Keighley.
The interview oversaw the discussion of The Sims 4 sequel, which we assume will be called The Sims 5.
Keighley questioned what opportunities there may be within the series in terms of a multiplayer mode and next-gen features, Miele went on to confirm that Maxis are currently diving into creating the next-gen sims game along with listing some a of the new features that will be coming to the title.
“I think 20 years later we learned a lot about how players interact, what motivates players, how players can come together co-operatively and so as you imagine as we think about the next generation of The Sims it’s SUPER important for us to have the best tools, the most flexibility and for players to really expand on their creativity, remix items and objects in the world.”
“And then to do that together – I think that’s one of our biggest opportunities with The Sims is the social connection component that we need to bring to this brand and this franchise. The team is hard at work on the next generation of that experience.”
Miele also mentioned that the team developing the game are dedicated to creating an experience for players that will allow them to share their creations with each other and open up collaboration possibilities.
“What we arm them with and the capabilities and frameworks we arm them with and where they take that, I think it’s going to be a pretty significant surprise and a pretty exciting time for us as we bring these tools and these platforms to market”.
As the title is currently in development it may be a little while before we see the title release, but we will continue to keep you updated so be sure to check back with us at Gamerficial for the latest news and updates.
