Modern Warfare doesn’t have it’s won zombies mode, but according to one of the lead developers it was going to before the idea was canned.
Zombies were always reserved for the Call Of Duty games made by Treyarch, it started back in 2008 with World at War and continued through all of the Black Ops games thanks to the great reception from the community.
As the mode became more and more popular, it started getting introduced into games from other developers, until eventually it was decided to keep the mode in the whole franchise. Something different happened with Modern Warfare though, Infinity Ward decided a zombies mode wouldn’t fit with the more realistic tone they had set for the game.
Some of the unused concept art for the zombies mode has been floating around online for a while now, and surprisingly it wasn’t leaked but was actually shown off by Modern Warfares gameplay director Jacob Minkoff, who was granted permission to post it online by Activision.
‘I was thinking it would be fun to play with the classic Call of Duty zombie gameplay, hinting here at some sort of Russian special forces soldier and his duo of quadruped robots, holding captive zombified soldiers by leashes around their necks’, Minkoff says.

Although not originally intended, the zombies mode ended up having a long and complex lore which doesn’t even come close to what we see in the image.
Thankfully zombies mode did return in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Treyarch are working hard to give us a lot more zombies content than we’re used to.
