Leaks are coming in thick and fast claiming to have information on what the next Call of Duty title will be. Were only a few months into the release of Black Ops Cold War and already fans are wanting to know what this years release will have in store for them.
Activision have allegedly left development of the new game in the hands of Sledgehammer Games, a surprising u-turn after the developers were axed after the disappointing release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Call of Duty: WWII.
Well known leaker Tom Henderson, previously known as LongSensation took to Twitter to claim that if the next game is not set in the future, we will be getting a guerilla warfare style game. Or at least, that’s one conclusion you can come to after he posted the tweet with a picture of a Gorilla.
Since the above tweet, Toms account has since been suspended. While we don’t know the exact reason behind the suspension, we can presume that it was removed due to leaking content resulting in copyright strikes from Activision. Would Activision spend time removing leaks if they weren’t true?
A previous leak suggested that the game would be set in the 1950s, sometime around the Korean Civil War, lining up with the claims of Guerilla Warfare. We could be revisiting a Vietnam theme, this is where guerilla warfare tactics were use the most.
Sledgehammer had previously worked on a game called Call of Duty: Fog of War, it was based in Vietnam and was due for release in 2009 before the project was cancelled. It could be that the development studio are revisiting this idea and remaking it for the modern day.
As of now these are only leaks, their reliability is questionable no matter who the source is. It was only a few days ago that another well known insider posted a leak suggesting the new game would be set during World War 2.
Which ever leak it is that turns out to be true, it looks like the game will be set in the same time period the 40s or the 50s.
