Ubisoft may be preparing a Director’s Cut edition of Watch Dogs: Legion, according to a new report from TwistedVoxel that cites industry insider Tom Henderson.
The report claims Ubisoft is working on a re-release of the 2020 open world title featuring new content and additional updates rather than a simple graphical remaster. One of the key additions reportedly being discussed is a fully realised “night mode,” which could significantly alter the atmosphere of the game’s futuristic London setting.
Sources also suggest that new motion capture work is being carried out. This detail has sparked speculation that the Director’s Cut may include expanded story sequences, reworked cutscenes, or entirely new narrative content. If accurate, it would indicate a more substantial overhaul than a typical definitive edition.
Originally launched in October 2020, Watch Dogs: Legion introduced the “Play as Anyone” system, allowing players to recruit and control nearly any NPC in the game’s dystopian London. While the game received post launch support including updates and expansions, active development largely concluded several years ago.
A Director’s Cut could signal renewed interest in the Watch Dogs franchise. Ubisoft has recently revisited older properties and experimented with refreshed editions of existing titles, potentially using them to gauge audience demand for future entries.
At the time of writing, Ubisoft has not officially confirmed the project. As with all unannounced releases, plans could change.
If the reports prove accurate, the bigger question may be whether players are ready to return to Legion’s version of London or if they would prefer the studio focus on a full Watch Dogs sequel instead.
